BrainPop Jr. K-3 (best free Android apps for kids)
What a great find! I love the BrainPop app, so to find a junior version of it is just a bonus. Covering a variety of learning areas, Annie and Mobie present content in interesting and fun short videos to capture the attention of lower elementary aged students (ages 5-8). Six movies and one "movie of the week" are free. A fantastic resource for educators or homeschoolers and a brilliant app for anyone to have on their Android device.
In-app purchase to subscribe to BrainPop Jr. for access to all of the videos
What's free: six movies, movie of the week
What's not free: hundreds of videos covering Science, Health, Reading & Writing, Social Studies, Math, Arts and Technology
Without paying for a subscription, your child can learn about Classifying Animals, Bullying, Nouns, U.S. Symbols, Tally Charts and Bar Graphs, and Internet Safety. After watching each video, there are two viewing comprehension quizzes, easy or hard, containing five questions. Scores for the quizzes are saved, with subsequent better scores replacing older poorer scores.
As a stand-alone app, BrainPop Jr. is worth getting for the variety of videos that come free. However, after viewing the quality of the videos and seeing all the other common core standard aligned resources available with a subscription, you will be very tempted to go all the way with this app.
Make BrainPOP Jr.® part of your day in the classroom, at home, or on the go! The free BrainPOP Jr. Movie of the Week app delivers a different animated movie every week - plus related quizzes and educational activities - right to your mobile device! Ideal for kids in Kindergarten through grade 3, the BrainPOP Jr. Movie of the Week app spans topics across Science, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Math, Health, Arts, and Technology. The gentle, humorous, and relatable characters Annie and Moby serve as guides through each topic, empowering kids to form their own ideas. BrainPOP Jr. is designed to cultivate critical thinking skills and encourage children to ask questions and make connections. The app is easily navigable by kids ages 5-9.
Since its 2006 launch, BrainPOP Jr. has been a safe and trusted online environment where early learners can further explore what they’re studying at school, or delve into any other age-appropriate subject they’re curious about.
