Magic Piano (best free Android apps for kids)

"If music be the food of love, play on!" - Shakespeare.

Magic Piano by Smule is a great way to enter the world of music. If your child has no previous experience playing an instrument, Smule has made it easy for him/her with their range of free apps.

Get it on Google Play

Magic Piano begins with the well known classic, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The player can choose from three difficulties: Easy, Medium or Hard. Easy requires the player to tap the screen with the correct rhythm for the song. Although no keyboard is in sight, lights rain down on the screen where the keys would be. As long as the player is tapping the screen with the correct rhythm, s/he will be playing the song. Medium takes it one step further and requires the use of two fingers to play the notes, and Hard requires up to four fingers at a time to play the chords.

A score is given according to accuracy of playing and XP and Smoola (coins) are earned to unlock levels and "purchase" further songs. Songs available for playing include a vast range of genres, such as Kids Songs, Traditional Songs, Video Games, Pop, Classical and more. Some songs are available free as each level is unlocked, while others can be purchased using Smoola which are earned while playing.

Another fantastic feature of Magic Piano is the "Solo Play Freestyle" which has four different keyboards to choose from: straight, circular, spiral or hidden. The keyboards can be adjusted to have as little as five keys or many as 45 keys. This is a really fun feature for younger children because there are no "objectives" and no wrong notes possible. They will love creating their own compositions on the crazy keyboards.

There is the option to create an account, which will record progress, make it possible to connect to others around the world, and pay for subscription to have unlimited access to songs. However, these options are not necessary to enjoy the full features of Magic Piano.

Please note:
1) We have discovered a minor, non-functionality impacting issue on the Nexus 10. We are aware of this and are working with Google to address the issue.
2) While you can use your existing Smule account with Magic Piano on Android, the content of the apps differ substantially, and consequently songs and Smoola are not shared between iOS and Android. Thank you for your understanding.
3) For some devices where we know there are issues, we have restricted installs for now. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S II has audio bugs in the phone itself that make the Magic Piano experience... well, not so magical. However, Android hardware and software are constantly improving so if we are able to support some of these devices in the future we absolutely will!
