Squeebles Spelling Test (best Android apps for kids)

At last! A customizable spelling app that records progress for your Android device! Key Stage Fun is my new Android Developer of Note. They have a range of math apps as well as this great spelling app. The characters, called Squeebles, were created by kids as part of a competition and each have unique personalities. As each spelling test is completed, new Squeebles are collected as rewards. This app was reviewed over at Smart Apps For Kids and given 4.5 stars.

Profiles are created, and each profile is customized according to the child's ability and given a certain length of time that they are shown each spelling word before having to spell it. Spelling tests are created in the Parent Zone and then assigned to players. The spelling words can be asked in alphabetical order, randomly or as they were entered. What's really fantastic about these tests is that after a player has completed some tests, new tests can be created out of random words from any test that player has been assigned, and also out of the words that were spelled incorrectly.

Because the tests are created and recorded by the parent, they are 100% individual and specific to the player's dialect. Perfect for children working at a level different to the rest of their peer group, and for users from countries other than USA. The progress tracking in this app is so detailed that it reports the percentage correct for each word in each test i.e. if a player has attempted a word 4 times and spelled it right 3 times, the stats will show 3/4 (75%) and give the most recent misspelling of the word.

This is by far the best spelling app I have come across on either iOS or Android and I will be making use of it for three of my children on a weekly basis. Well worth a download!

IMPORTANT: For optimal audio recording functionality we would recommend Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above.

IMPORTANT 2: This app does not work with Fuhu's Nabi 2 device.

UPDATE (20th March 2013) - We have now fixed the scrolling issue which was causing erratic scrolling behaviour on some devices."
