Starfall All About Me (best Android apps for kids)

Starfall is one of my favorite learn-to-read websites. It has such great content and a fabulous phonics reading program to help little ones build a good foundation for reading. It is very popular among teachers and homeschoolers alike and now, with their apps, they are reaching even more children. Starfall All About Me is a personalized storybook that your child will want to read over and over again.

Available on Amazon Appstore

Get it on Google Play

When first opening the app, the player customizes the character in the story by describing who s/he is by choosing gender, age, hair length and color, eye shape and color, nose size/shape, skin color, freckles, glasses frames, and shirt/pants/shoes color. Once the character is customized, the player then goes on to fill in information about the pet, the bedroom and favorite toy.

Besides personalizing the story, there are four extra activities that require the player to drag words onto a picture to label it, matching the shape of the word to the label. This is a really great skill to have as recognizing the shape of words is how we read fluently. All About Me has simple sentences, such as those you'd find in a levelled reader, and the clear illustrations and subtle animations mean the student can focus on learning to read the words without getting distracted. Definitely worth downloading for your little one learning to read.

"Your child will love creating and interacting with his or her Me Character. Players learn essential vocabulary while making choices about everyday objects, body parts, pets, and household environments. This app is excellent for emerging readers and English language learners. If you enjoy this app, please write a review!"
