Endless Alphabet

This is not just another alphabet app. Endless Alphabet continuously adds words to the app and so your child will also increase his/her vocabulary. More than a flashcard app, and more fun than a phonics app, Endless Alphabet will keep your child going back again and again to play with the words.

Healthy Heroes

Another great quality app from Yogome, this time with a focus on nutrition. Monsters are taking over the town and need to be fed! As crates of food fall from the sky, the player makes healthy choices for the monster and saves the frightened townsfolk. A great way to reinforce the nutritional value of different foods to kids. My favorite thing about this app? It endorses cereal as part of a delicious dinner!

Even Monsters Get Sick

This highly interactive story has the coolest soundtrack, really bassy brass, and the illustrations are equally as cool. This is a fantastic story, especially for kids stuck in bed sick, as they will be cheered by the characters, and reminded that by resting and taking their medicine, they will eventually get better and be able to go and play once again. This app was reviewed over at  Smart Apps For Kids and given 4.5 stars.

The Shape Monster

The Shape Monster is a French chef who needs to taste the food in the kitchen. He requests the player to give him various shapes, which are actually pieces of food. The Shape Monster requests three shapes in the first stage, and expresses his delight at eating the correct shape. If a wrong shape is fed to The Shape Monster, he spits it out and expresses his disgust.

My Muppets Show

Loop music mixers are all the rage at the moment. They are a wonderful way for children to express creativity, to entertain themselves and others, and to exercise their brain. Disney is on the band wagon (pardon the pun!) and have created My Muppets Show, using the muppet characters as band members.

What A Bad Dream

"What a Bad Dream by Mercer Mayer was published in print in 1992. It tells the story of Little Critter and a dream he has where a magic potion turns him into a monster that no one wants to be around! The touching ending is one little (human) critters will readily identify with and one that will (hopefully) bring sweet dreams. The digital version of this story also adds a new twist, keeping track as the reader tries to find all the little grasshoppers and spiders (20 of each) hidden on every page." Carisa from Digital Storytime.

Mike, Sulley, and the gang have hit the theaters again and this time we got a sneak peak into how they became the characters we know and love today. To help promote the movie Disney released this app which recreates one of the funniest scenes in the movie, during which the characters try to catch Archie the Scare Pig.

Cutie Monsters Preschool

Cutie Monsters Preschool is a nice 1-10 counting app with a unique look. The narration of each page goes something like this "Blushy has one curly tale" and then the child presses on Blushy to see and here the number one. That is then reinforced on the next screen with a counting exercise up to the number from the previous page. There is also a well-done wood puzzle section.

The Word Monsters

If there's one thing that can be said about monsters, it is that they appeal to a wider range of children's ages than something like monkeys, for example. The Word Monsters is a great learn-to-read app for very young gifted children learning to read, right through to older children working at a lower level. The Word Monsters is a reading program in progress, but what MindConnex have produced so far is top notch. Download the app and check it out!
