Gravity: Don't Let Go (best free Android apps for kids)

Based on the movie of the same name, Gravity by Warner Bros. International Enterprises is an amazing app that will have your child on the edge of their seat! It does not contain any mature content (that gave the movie a PG rating) but is purely a hand-eye/physics type of game that would suit children from age eight and above. Set around the International Space Station (ISS) the player needs to navigate the inertia of space to achieve missions within a time limit (oxygen supply!). Very nerve-racking!

If your child likes to play flight simulator games, they will love this one! It has the added twist of zero-gravity which may mean throwing out everything your child knows about controlling aircraft! The concept is the same, rolling left and right, rotating up and down, accelerating, but with the lack of gravity and the problem of inertia, flying to set destinations is a just a little more difficult in space.

The app can be played as a single player, or multi-player (either as a guest or logged in through Facebook or Twitter). Single player mode has three missions to complete: rescue fellow crew members, repair the ISS, and retrieve the Soyuz module. Multi-player mode has the option of either joining a game or creating your own. By creating your own, there is the option to have it password protected, which is a good cyber-safety choice for younger children, because by joining a game already created, your child will have the ability to chat online using set phrases or by typing their own. There is not really enough time to chat, however, if the missions are to be completed before the oxygen depletes!

This is a good game for improving hand-eye co-ordination and decision making. It could also be a great sharing app if more than one family member has it on their device and they link together in a private game. Gravity takes the idea of board games to a whole new level!

At 372 miles above Earth, the view is breathtaking, but life is impossible. Whatever you do: don't let go.

Gravity: Don’t Let Go invites players to experience the tension and excitement of director Alfonso Cuarón’s thrilling film as they struggle to survive in the vast emptiness of space. Following a repair mission that has gone very wrong, you must detach from the damaged structure and stabilize yourself before piloting an EVA suit to rescue your partner and return to the ISS airlock. Controlling the suit in zero-gravity is no easy task especially when your oxygen levels are dangerously low. Do you have the skill and strategic thinking needed to survive in this unforgiving environment? Additional missions require players to repair damaged ISS components and pilot the Soyuz spacecraft. Multi-player gameplay is coming soon. From Warner Bros. Pictures and director Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, is in theaters October 4.
