Monkey Preschool Fix-It (best Android apps for kids)

I stumbled across this app while looking for something else and had to share it with you. You will recognize the monkey in Monkey Preschool Fix-It from other apps we've featured: Monkey Word School Adventure, Monkey Math School Sunshine and Monkey Preschool Lunchbox. This app targets toddlers and preschoolers and involves a range of early learning skills. The fix-it theme especially appeals to my daughter who loves Dr Panda's Handyman and is often seen walking around the house with a plastic yellow hammer. Sorry there is no lite version for you to try-before-you-buy, so reading this post will be your preview!

Six mini-games will have your child identifying colors, shapes, numbers, letters, problem solving, improving visual perceptions and most importantly, having fun! The activities randomly scroll through, and after completing a set of five activities, your child is rewarded with an interactive toy prize. Up to three individual profiles can be created, so prizes that are collected are stored in the toyshop of the profile, giving parents an idea of how many times the app has been played by each child.

One feature of this app that particularly appeals to me is the audio and visual support provided for children to complete the activities. For example, verbal directions are given, then backed up with a visual representation of the instruction. As the colored nails are hammered in, the name of the color is spoken with each strike of the nail. The name of the letter is repeated when it is placed into the robot and silhouettes of missing parts give children a clue as to what is missing. This is especially helpful for students who are very young or who have an intellectual disability. The app is designed for children to succeed, as there are no time limits and children are not penalised for wrong answers.

The main drawback of this app is the fact that there is no skill progression. Despite being rewarded for completing activities, the level of difficulty never changes. Perhaps that is something to look forward to in future updates? Anyway, that is enough from me for now, go get your safety glasses on and get fixing!
