Lightbot One Hour Coding (best free Android apps for kids)
Despite having done some coding myself (100 years ago), I was reluctant, no - afraid, of introducing coding to my son as part of our homeschooling curriculum. That was until I discovered all of the great coding apps for kids, including Lightbot One Hour Coding! I had heard about it from Smart Apps for Special Needs but had put it to the back of my mind in the "too hard basket". Well, I finally downloaded the app (and a few more coding apps for kids which I will share another time) and it is perfect! Excellently presented, introducing coding logic in a progressive manner, it begins with the very basics. I think you will agree this is a must have app for elementary kids. Plus, it is FREE.

Included in this free app are 17 free levels divided into three sections: Basics, Procedures and Loops. Each section can be started at any time, but each level is unlocked only as previous levels are completed. Basics teaches simple commands to maneuver the bot around the grid. Procedures takes it to the next level, introducing programming patterns so save on coding repetition. Loops is self explanatory, giving students the option to create looping procedures.
Apps like Lightbot One Hour Coding show the clear link between math and language and give kids a sense of achievement when they master the coding arrangements for each level. The whole app only takes about an hour to complete (give or take depending on your child's skill level) and is a great introduction into the world of computer code. Lightbot One Hour Coding will allay your fears of code and encourage your children/students to keep going with this new found ability and essential literacy skill of the new millennium. Download today and get coding!
